A bereaved father (contextual narrative figure; name not stated in this snippet)

Tirtha: Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra (contextual)

Type: kshetra

Listener: Not explicit

Scene: Śeṣa (or the speaking figure) stands resolute amid nāgas and kin, hand raised in refusal, water-vessel present but withheld; faces show tension between ritual duty and grief-driven justice.

FAQs

Grief and moral outrage can harden a person against even customary acts of offering; the verse frames a dharmic conflict driven by perceived injustice.

The wider passage belongs to the Tīrthamāhātmya around Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra (named explicitly in later verses of this unit).

Udaka/toya—ritual water offered as a libation (often connected with śrāddha/ancestral or funerary observance)—is referenced, though here it is refused.
