vyāsa uvāca | sūtāvadhehi dharmātmañjātūkarṇya niśāmaya | śukavaiśaṃpāyanādyāḥ śṛṇvaṃtvapi ca bālakāḥ
Vyāsa
Tirtha: Kāśī (Avimukta)
Type: kshetra
Listener: Sūta and Jātūkarṇya (with Śuka, Vaiśaṃpāyana, students as audience)
Scene: Vyāsa formally convenes an audience: Sūta, Jātūkarṇya, Śuka, Vaiśaṃpāyana, and young brahmacārins seated in attentive rows, indicating a grand teaching session.
Dharma is preserved through attentive listening and inclusive transmission—elders, sages, and students alike should hear the sacred account.
Kāśī is the overarching subject of the Kāśīkhaṇḍa, but this verse focuses on the assembly of listeners rather than a single tīrtha.
No ritual act is prescribed; the instruction is śravaṇa (hearing) of the Purāṇic Māhātmya.
