prayāṇaṃ maṃdarātkāśīṃ vṛṣabhadhvajaśūlinaḥ | jaigīṣavyena saṃvādo jyeṣṭhasthāne maheśituḥ
Skanda
Tirtha: Jyeṣṭhasthāna (Maheśvara)
Type: kshetra
Listener: Pilgrimage-audience within the Purāṇic frame
Scene: Śiva, trident in hand, bull-banner unfurled, traveling from Mandara toward Kāśī; then seated at Jyeṣṭhasthāna in discourse with the ascetic Jaigīṣavya amid banyan trees and ghāṭa silhouettes.
Kāśī is portrayed as a chosen divine destination of Śiva, making pilgrimage there a theologically charged act of approaching the Lord’s own abode.
Jyeṣṭhasthāna—presented as a key Śaiva sacred spot in Kāśī connected with Maheśvara.
No direct rite is prescribed; the verse introduces a narrative and a sacred-site dialogue that grounds later prescriptions.
