gāyatrī vedajananī gāyatrī brāhmaṇaprasūḥ | gātāraṃ trāyate yasmādgāyatrī tena gīyate

الغاياتري (Gāyatrī) هي أمُّ الفيدات؛ والغاياتري تُنجب البراهمة. ولأنها تحمي (trāyate) المُنشد/المُتلوّ (gātā)، سُمّيت لذلك «غاياتري».
