bhūmiśayyāvrate deyā śayyā ślakṣṇā satūlikā | phalatyāge phalaṃ deyaṃ rasatyāge ca tadrasam
Skanda
Tirtha: Kāśī
Type: kshetra
Scene: A vratin sleeping on a simple mat on the floor while servants carry a fine bed and bedding to be donated; baskets of fruits and jars of juice are handed to pilgrims/poor near a ghat rest-house.
True austerity is compassionate: what you give up for yourself, you provide for others as dāna.
The verse is part of Kāśī Khaṇḍa’s vrata-dharma instruction; it does not name a particular tirtha.
If observing ground-sleeping, donate a bed with bedding; if renouncing fruits/juices, donate fruits/juices respectively.
