īśvara uvāca | atra nārāyaṇo devastapastepe suduṣkaram | divyavarṣaśataṃ trīṇi jātaḥ suṣṭhvānanaśca saḥ
Īśvara (Śiva)
Tirtha: Dharmāraṇya (Nārāyaṇa-tapas-sthāna)
Type: kshetra
Listener: Skanda
Scene: Īśvara explains: in this very place Nārāyaṇa performed extremely difficult austerity for three hundred divine years, and manifested with an excellent face.
Great sanctity is forged through sustained tapas; divine manifestations and tīrtha-glory are rooted in disciplined endurance.
Dharmāraṇya, as the place where Nārāyaṇa undertook extraordinary austerities.
Tapas (austerity) is described as the sanctifying practice, though not prescribed as a specific vow here.
