शिवपुराण-प्रशंसा (Praise of the Śiva Purāṇa) / Śivapurāṇa Māhātmya
तथापि तस्य माहात्म्यं वक्ष्ये किंचित्तु वोनघाः । चित्तमाधाय शृणुत व्यासेनोक्तं पुरा मम
tathāpi tasya māhātmyaṃ vakṣye kiṃcittu vonaghāḥ | cittamādhāya śṛṇuta vyāsenoktaṃ purā mama
ومع ذلك، يا من لا إثمَ عليكم، سأذكر لكم شيئًا يسيرًا من مجدِه، مجدِ الربّ شيفا. فاثبتوا قلوبكم واصغوا—فقد قاله لي في القديم فياسا.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Sthala Purana: Not a shrine account; emphasizes paramparā (Vyāsa → Sūta → sages) as the ‘place’ where revelation is preserved and transmitted.
Significance: Frames listening with steadied mind (citta-ādhāna) as a ritualized inner pilgrimage; the benefit is receptivity to grace-bearing teaching.
Role: teaching
It establishes śravaṇa (devotional listening) with a steady mind as the doorway to receiving Shiva’s māhātmyam, a key Shaiva means for purification and inner orientation toward Pati (Shiva).
By introducing Shiva’s “glory” as a transmitted tradition from Vyāsa, it frames later teachings on Saguna worship—especially reverent listening to the Linga’s greatness—as an authorized Purāṇic path of devotion.
A simple practice is implied: sit with collected attention (cittam ādhāya) and listen/recite the Shiva Purana with reverence—an act of śravaṇa-bhakti that supports mantra-japa and Linga-pūjā.
