Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Dāna (charitable gifting) is framed as a purifier supporting Śiva-bhakti; such merit is traditionally carried into tīrtha-yātrā and liṅga-sevā as a preparatory discipline.
Role: nurturing
Offering: naivedya
The verse highlights dāna (charitable giving) of essential and sacred-use items as a purifier of karma, creating inner fitness for bhakti and Śiva-anugraha (Śiva’s grace), which is central to liberation in a Shaiva framework.
These donations mirror what supports Linga-worship and temple/service life—water for abhiṣeka, oils and fragrances for worship, and food staples for feeding devotees—thereby strengthening Saguna Śiva-bhakti through service (sevā) and generosity.
A practical takeaway is to perform Śiva-pūjā with water offerings (abhiṣeka) and to accompany it with dāna of necessities—especially water and food—on Śiva days (e.g., Mondays or Mahāśivarātri) as a discipline of purification and devotion.
