Rite of Consecrating a Śiva-Teacher (Śivācārya Abhiṣeka)
athānuśāsanaṃ kuryātpūrvairācaritaṃ yathā | yathā ca śivaśāstroktaṃ yathā lokeṣu pūjyate

Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It affirms that Shaiva sadhana should be grounded in authorized instruction—what the elders practiced and what Shiva’s own shastra teaches—so that discipline becomes a reliable path toward purity and liberation (moksha).
By emphasizing Shiva-shastra and accepted practice, it points to regulated Saguna worship—such as Linga-puja—performed according to Shaiva injunctions rather than personal invention, making devotion steady and efficacious.
The verse broadly recommends shastric, tradition-based observance—regular puja and disciplined conduct; in Shaiva context this typically includes mantra-japa (e.g., Panchakshara), and properly taught ritual procedures rather than improvised methods.
