शिवसंस्कार-दीक्षानिरूपणम् (Śivasaṃskāra and the Typology of Dīkṣā)
yamaśca niyamāścaiva nātra kāryā vicāraṇā | gurorviruddhaṃ yadvākyaṃ na vadejjātucinnaraḥ
Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva’s yoga-teachings as preserved in the Vayu Samhita)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It teaches that ethical discipline (yama-niyama) is foundational, and that progress toward Śiva-realization is safeguarded by humility and alignment with the Guru’s direction, avoiding ego-driven contradiction.
Linga-worship and Saguna Śiva-upāsanā are most fruitful when performed under proper initiation and guidance; the verse emphasizes that practice should harmonize with the Guru’s instruction rather than personal opinion.
Maintain yama-niyama as daily vows and perform japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and Śiva-pūjā in a manner taught by one’s Guru, prioritizing obedience and steadiness over debate.
