It presents the Shaiva discipline that precedes higher worship: the disciple becomes fit through humility (absence of ego), service to the guru, fasting, and ritual purity—signs of inner readiness for Shiva-oriented purification and instruction.
The verse describes preparatory consecration: mantra-sanctified water and auspicious substances purify the worshipper so that Linga-pūjā to Saguna Shiva is performed with adhikāra (fitness), reverence, and ritual correctness under the guru’s guidance.
A guru-directed purification bath (snāna) with mantra-suddha water, fasting (upavāsa), and egolessness—implying disciplined japa and pūjā preparation before undertaking Shaiva rites.
