Inquiry into Pramāṇa, Divine Autonomy, and Grace
rogārtaṃ tu bhiṣagrogādbhaiṣajaissukhamuddharet | evaṃ svabhāvamalinānsvabhāvādduḥkhinaḥ paśūn
Suta Goswami (narrating the Vāyavīyasaṃhitā teaching to the sages)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Role: liberating
It frames bondage and sorrow as a curable condition: the paśu (bound soul) suffers due to inner impurity, and Shiva, the Pati (Lord), restores wholeness through grace and liberating means—like a physician curing disease.
Saguna Shiva, approached through Linga-worship, is presented as the compassionate healer who applies ‘remedies’—devotion, mantra, and right knowledge—to cleanse the soul’s impurity and remove suffering.
Treat suffering as a spiritual ailment: take the ‘medicine’ of Shiva-bhakti—japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), Linga-pūjā with bhasma (Tripuṇḍra) and Rudrākṣa, and steady meditation on Shiva as the inner purifier.
