अनुग्रह-स्वातन्त्र्य-प्रमाणविचारः | Inquiry into Pramāṇa, Divine Autonomy, and Grace
सर्वो ऽपि निग्रहो लोके न च विद्वेषपूर्वकः । न हि द्वेष्टि पिता पुत्रं यो निगृह्याति शिक्षयेत्
sarvo 'pi nigraho loke na ca vidveṣapūrvakaḥ | na hi dveṣṭi pitā putraṃ yo nigṛhyāti śikṣayet

It teaches that true discipline (nigraha)—whether self-control or correcting others—must be rooted in compassion and the intent to uplift, not in hatred; this aligns with Shaiva Siddhanta’s emphasis on purification of the bonds (pāśa) through right understanding and conduct.
Linga worship trains the devotee toward inner restraint and clarity; this verse frames such restraint as benevolent—like a father’s guidance—mirroring Saguna Shiva’s grace that corrects the soul to turn it from bondage toward Shiva.
Practice daily japa of the Panchakshara ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with a vow of non-hatred, using the mantra as a gentle inner corrective whenever anger or aversion arises—turning nigraha into conscious self-discipline.
