नन्दिकेशावतारवर्णनम् (Nandikeśa Avatāra Varṇanam) — “Account of the Descent/Origin of Nandikeśvara”
अथ तस्यैवमनिशन्तत्परस्य द्विजस्त वै । दिव्यम्वर्षसहस्रं तु गतं क्षणमिवाद्भुतम्
atha tasyaivamaniśantatparasya dvijasta vai | divyamvarṣasahasraṃ tu gataṃ kṣaṇamivādbhutam
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya, inferred from Purāṇic dialogue style)
Tattva Level: pashu
Significance: Portrays altered experience of time in unwavering contemplation; Siddhānta reads this as the soul’s inward turning where māyā’s measures (kāla) lose force, preparing for anugraha.
Cosmic Event: Subjective dilation/compression of time: 'divya-varṣa-sahasra' passing like a moment in deep devotion.
It highlights the Shaiva principle that unwavering absorption in Śiva (Pati) transforms one’s experience of time; when the mind rests steadily in Him, worldly measures of duration lose their hold, indicating profound inner stillness and spiritual ripening.
Such unbroken contemplation is commonly supported by Saguna upāsanā—fixing awareness on Śiva’s form, Linga, mantra, or qualities—until devotion becomes continuous and the worshipper’s attention no longer breaks into ordinary time-bound distractions.
A practical takeaway is nitya-japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with steady dhyāna on Śiva (often before a Linga), supported by simple Shaiva disciplines like bhasma/tripuṇḍra and rudrākṣa to sustain uninterrupted remembrance.
