अस्मानुद्धर गौरीश प्रसीद परमेश्वरः । त्वदधीना वयं नाथ यदिच्छसि तथा कुरु
asmānuddhara gaurīśa prasīda parameśvaraḥ | tvadadhīnā vayaṃ nātha yadicchasi tathā kuru
The distressed devotees/combatants addressing Lord Shiva (as Gaurīśa) in prayer within the Yuddhakhaṇḍa narrative
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Sthala Purana: No specific sthala; the verse is a direct śaraṇāgati prayer to Gaurīśa (Śiva as Lord of Gaurī), emphasizing dependence (tvadadhīnatā).
Significance: Models the core devotional posture that Śaiva Siddhānta treats as conducive to Śiva’s grace: humility, surrender, and petition for uplift (uddhāra).
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Gaurī
Role: liberating
It expresses śaraṇāgati—total surrender to Pati (Śiva) as the sole refuge—affirming that liberation and protection arise by His prasāda (grace), not by ego-driven effort.
The prayer addresses Saguna Śiva as Gaurīśa/Parameśvara, the compassionate Lord who responds to devotion; in Liṅga-worship this same attitude is central—offering oneself and one’s fate at the Liṅga as the living presence of Śiva.
Practice japa with a surrendering mind—especially the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and end worship by placing all outcomes at Śiva’s feet (īśvara-arpana), optionally with Tripuṇḍra bhasma and Rudrākṣa as aids to remembrance.
