देवस्तुतिः (Devastuti) — Hymn/Praise of the Devas
संकर्षणाय देवाय नमस्ते कंसनाशिने । चाणूरमर्दिने तुभ्यं दामोदर विषादिने
saṃkarṣaṇāya devāya namaste kaṃsanāśine | cāṇūramardine tubhyaṃ dāmodara viṣādine
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Ananta (as Saṅkarṣaṇa)
Mantra: saṃkarṣaṇāya devāya namaste kaṃsanāśine | cāṇūramardine tubhyaṃ dāmodara viṣādine
Type: stotra
It models stuti (devotional praise) through divine names, teaching that sincere salutations and remembrance of the Lord’s qualities dissolve fear and inner bondage (pāśa), aligning the soul toward grace and liberation.
Though the names here praise a personal, attribute-endowed (saguṇa) deity, the Shiva Purana frequently uses such stuti as a devotional method that ultimately leads the seeker to Shiva’s highest reality (Pati) and to Linga-worship as a focused symbol of the Absolute.
Practice nāma-japa of the praised epithets with bhakti, and in a Shaiva mode pair it with “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” applying tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and offering water to the Śiva-liṅga as an act of surrender.
