Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Emphasizes ritual purity and ethical humility: cleansing (mārjana), namaskāra, and kṣamā (seeking pardon) remove doṣa and align the paśu for Śiva’s grace.
Role: nurturing
It teaches that true Śiva-bhakti is inseparable from inner and outer purity: cleansing (mārjana), humility (namaskāra), and repentance (kṣānti) refine the devotee’s intention so worship becomes a means toward Śiva’s grace and liberation.
The verse prescribes direct upacāras to Saguna Śiva in the form of the Liṅga—sprinkling/cleansing the deity, bowing, and concluding with renewed purification—showing that reverence and ritual order support focused devotion to Śiva’s manifest presence.
Perform mārjana (sanctified sprinkling/cleansing of the Liṅga), offer namaskāra, sincerely ask forgiveness for omissions or faults (kṣānti), and do ācamana again to re-establish purity and steadiness of mind before proceeding.
