ثم إن أولئك البهيرافا وسائر الأتباع الشداد قاتلوه بأعداد غفيرة. وقد استبدّ بهم الغضب، ومعهم قوةٌ عليا، فأطلقوا شتّى أنواع الأسلحة.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Bhairava
Shakti Form: Kālī
Role: destructive
The Bhairavas’ fierce battle signifies Shiva’s protective grace acting through His gaṇas to destroy adharma and the binding forces (pāśa) that obstruct dharma and inner awakening.
Bhairava is a Saguna expression of Shiva’s power—terrible to ignorance yet compassionate to devotees. Remembering such forms supports Linga-worship by strengthening surrender (śaraṇāgati) to Shiva as the supreme protector.
A practical takeaway is protective japa of the Pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa, cultivating fearlessness and steadiness amid conflict.
