The verse praises pativratā-dharma as a powerful purifier: steadfast, dharmic devotion destroys pāpa and generates pāvana-śakti (purifying merit) that uplifts not only the individual but the wider world—leading to joy and auspiciousness in both this life and the hereafter.
In the Shiva Purana’s Saguna framework, household dharma and devotion are themselves offerings to Śiva: purity of conduct supports purity of worship, making linga-pūjā, vrata, and daily bhakti fruitful by reducing pāpa and strengthening sattva.
The takeaway is to pair dharmic living with simple Śaiva devotion—daily remembrance of Śiva (japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), and if practiced in the tradition, linga-pūjā with bhasma (tripuṇḍra) as a reminder of purity and restraint.
