Vasiṣṭha’s Śāpa Narrative

tathā tvamapi rājendra gokarṇa giriśālayam | gatvā sampūjya talliṃgaṃ kṛtakṛtyatvamāpnuyāḥ
Suta Goswami (narrating the Kotirudra Samhita pilgrimage glorification, conveying the instruction to a king)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Instructional verse urging a king to go to Gokarṇa, ‘the abode of Girīśa’, and worship the liṅga to attain kṛtakṛtyatva (life’s fulfillment).
Significance: Frames pilgrimage as soteriology: the bound soul (paśu) moves from worldly kingship to true purpose through liṅga-upāsanā, culminating in inner completion (kṛtakṛtyatva) as a sign of Śiva’s grace.
Offering: dhupa
It teaches that approaching Śiva through sacred kṣetra-darśana and wholehearted Liṅga-pūjā leads to kṛtakṛtyatva—inner completion—because devotion to Pati (Śiva) loosens pāśa (bondage) and matures the soul toward grace.
The verse recommends worship of the Liṅga at Gokarṇa as a concrete, saguna focus for devotion; through reverent pūjā, the devotee connects to Śiva’s accessible presence and receives spiritual merit and purification that supports realization.
Undertake tīrtha-yātrā to Gokarṇa and perform sampūjā of the Liṅga—offering water, bilva leaves, and mantra-japa (especially the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with disciplined reverence.
