Devata

Agni

Mantras

Mantra 1

Mantra 2

Mantra 3

Mantra 4

Mantra 5

Mantra 6

Mantra 7

Mantra 8

Inside Sukta 142

How it unfolds

  1. Where it opens

The singer declares union with Agni and confesses there is no other dependable refuge.

  2. Development

Agni is praised as a triple-guarded shelter who drives away violators and establishes a shining protection; he also gathers many motions into one directed path.

  3. Climax

Agni’s ordering power is envisioned: many ‘chariots/lines’ converge to a single course under his cleansing, guiding action.

  4. Where it settles

The hymn ends in auspicious benediction—growth of dūrvā grass and the appearance of lakes and white lotuses—signaling wellbeing in the wake of the deity’s movement.

The deity: Agni

  • Cosmic functionMediator between human and divine realms; purifier and protector; the force that kindles order (ṛta) by transforming offerings into divine nourishment.
  • Inner significanceThe awakened will and inner flame of aspiration—discernment that purifies, concentrates scattered impulses, and establishes a safe, luminous center in consciousness.
