Sukta 1.27

Devata

Agni

Inside Sukta 27

How it unfolds

  1. Where it opens

Agni is revered like a prized steed—beloved, powerful, and rich in desirable gifts—installed as sovereign guide of the sacrificial journey.

  2. Development

The hymn unfolds Agni’s practical help: he pushes the mortal forward in contests and in the gaining of force, making the worshipper master of lasting impulses and sustenance.

  3. Climax

The recognition that Agni’s favor turns human striving into enduring command over iṣaḥ (vital impulsions/nourishments) and victorious movement.

  4. Where it settles

A final universal salutation to Gods great and small, praying that the human hymn of aspiration not be cut short by might beyond the singer.

The seer
