Indrajit’s Brahmastra Rite and the Crushing of the Vanara Host
आवांतुदृष्टवापतितौविसंज्ञौनिवृत्तयुद्दौगतरोषहर्षे ।ध्रुवंप्रवेक्ष्यत्यमरारिवासमसौसमादायरणाग्रलक्ष्मीम् ।।।।
āvāṃ tu dṛṣṭvā patitau visaṃjñau nivṛtta-yuddhau gata-roṣa-harṣe |
dhruvaṃ pravekṣyaty amarāri-vāsam asau samādāya raṇāgra-lakṣmīm ||
ولكنه إذ يرانا نحن الاثنين ساقطين فاقدَي الوعي—وقد سكن القتال، ونفدت الحميّة والابتهاج—فسيدخل لا محالة إلى دارِ أعداءِ الآلهة، لانكا، وهو يظنّ أنّه قد ظفر ببهاءِ النصر في مقدّمة الحرب.
"This Indrajith is desisting from comb at on seeing us. As the Vanaras have lost pride and happiness and fallen into unconscious state, he would surely think that he has attained prosperity after victory in war and surely enter Lanka, the abode of enemies of god."
It warns against mistaking appearances for truth: dharma requires discernment (viveka) and steadiness, not triumphalism based on a momentary advantage.
Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa lie senseless after the weapon-strike; the speaker anticipates that Indrajit will assume victory and withdraw into Laṅkā.
Clear-sighted resolve: even in apparent defeat, the brothers frame the enemy’s likely error and do not concede inner defeat.
