Accompanied by Lakshmana and joined together with Sugriva, glorious and righteous Rama walked in front of the army.
Dharma is modeled as leadership from the front: the righteous leader does not send others into danger while remaining behind.
As the crossing proceeds, Rāma takes position at the forefront of the marching host, with Lakṣmaṇa and Sugrīva.
Rāma’s dharma-rooted courage and exemplary command—he embodies maryādā (proper conduct) by leading personally.
