Hanuman’s Offer of Rescue and Sita’s Dharmic Refusal
मां वा हरेयुस्त्वद्धस्ताद्विशसेयुरथापि वा।अव्यवस्थौ हि दृश्येते युद्धे जयपराजयौ।।।।
māṃ vā hareyus tvaddhastād viśaseyur athāpi vā | avyavasthau hi dṛśyete yuddhe jayaparājayau ||
قد ينتزعونني من يديك، أو يذبحونني أيضًا؛ فإن النصر والهزيمة في الحرب أمران غير مستقرّين.
"They may snatch me away from your hands or cut me to pieces. Success or defeat is uncertain in a war.
Dharma respects the gravity of violence: because war’s outcome is uncertain, one must avoid initiating conflict that could lead to the innocent being harmed.
Sītā warns that in a chaotic fight she could be seized from Hanumān or killed, since war is unpredictable.
Sobriety about violence—Sītā recognizes the moral and practical risks of battle.
