Sita’s Lament and Resolve under Threat
सा राक्षसीमध्यगता च भीरु
र्वाग्भिर्भृशं रावणतर्जिता च।
कान्तारमध्ये विजने विसृष्टा
बालेव कन्या विललाप सीता।।5.28.2।।
sā rākṣasī-madhya-gatā ca bhīrur vāgbhir bhṛśaṃ rāvaṇa-tarjitā ca |
kāntāra-madhye vijane visṛṣṭā bāleva kanyā vilalāpa sītā ||5.28.2||
وسط نساء الراكشاسا، كانت سيتا خائفة وقد هددها رافانا بقسوة بكلمات جارحة. وإذ تُركت وحيدة في وسط الغابة المقفرة، راحت تنتحب كفتاة صغيرة.
Encircled by the demonesses, Sita was repeatedly humiliated by Ravana's cruel words.She wept like a young girl deserted in a desolate forest.
By portraying her surrounded, threatened, and isolated, the verse emphasizes that her suffering is coerced and external; her inner commitment to marital fidelity and righteousness remains intact even while she laments.
Satya is implicit in Sītā’s unwavering truthfulness and constancy to Rāma: even under Rāvaṇa’s intimidation and the demonesses’ pressure, she does not abandon her truthful resolve, though she grieves.
