Hanumān’s Survey of Rāvaṇa’s Inner Palace and Banquet Hall
अङ्गनानां सहस्रेण भूषितेन विभूषणैः।।5.11.6।।रूपसल्लापशीलेन युक्तगीतार्थभाषिणा।देशकालाभियुक्तेन युक्तवाक्याभिधायिना।।5.11.7।।रताभिरतसंसुप्तं ददर्श हरियूथपः।
aṅganānāṃ sahasreṇa bhūṣitena vibhūṣaṇaiḥ || 5.11.6 ||
rūpasallāpaśīlena yuktagītārthabhāṣiṇā |
deśakālābhiyuktena yuktavākyābhidhāyinā || 5.11.7 ||
ratābhiratasaṃsuptaṃ dadarśa hariyūthapaḥ |
ورأى قائدُ القردة آلافَ النساء مزيناتٍ بالحُليّ؛ ماهراتٍ في الحديث الرقيق، عارفاتٍ بمعاني الأناشيد، مُراعياتٍ لما يليق بالزمان والمكان، مُحسناتٍ للكلام الموافق؛ وهنّ الآن نائماتٌ بعد لهوٍ طويل.
'One has to search a creature among its own species. It is not possible to find a lost woman in the herd of female deer'.
Dharma here is conveyed by contrast: refinement and accomplishment without restraint can still culminate in heedlessness; Hanuman’s dharma is to remain unaffected and continue his righteous mission.
Hanuman surveys the luxurious inner chambers and observes the sleeping women, noting their adornment and cultured qualities.
Self-control (saṃyama) and moral clarity—Hanuman witnesses sensuality but does not become entangled in it.
