Viśvāmitra Attains Brahmarṣi Status
तस्य वर्षसहस्रस्य व्रते पूर्णे महाव्रत:।।1.65.4।।भोक्तुमारब्धवानन्नं तस्मिन् काले रघूत्तम। इन्द्रो द्विजातिर्भूत्वा तं सिद्धमन्नमयाचत।।1.65.5।।
tasya varṣasahasrasya vrate pūrṇe mahāvrataḥ || (1.65.4)
bhoktum ārabdhavān annaṃ tasmin kāle raghūttama |
indro dvijātir bhūtvā taṃ siddham annam ayācata || (1.65.5)
يا خيرَ آلِ رَغهو، لمّا اكتمل نذرُه ألفَ سنةٍ، شرعَ ذلك العظيمُ في الوفاء بالنذور أن يتناول الطعامَ المُعَدَّ؛ وفي تلك اللحظة جاء إندرا متنكّرًا في هيئةِ براهمنٍ، يسألُه صدقةَ ذلك الطعامِ الجاهز.
O Best of Raghus dynasty (Rama) when the thousandyearold vow was over (Viswamitra) the great practitioner of vows began to partake cooked rice. At this moment Indra assumed the guise of a brahmin and asked him for the rice (he was going to eat).
Dharma is framed as unwavering commitment to vows and to charitable duty even when it conflicts with immediate self-interest.
This verse repeats the setup: Indra approaches in disguise at the instant Viśvāmitra is about to eat after long austerity.
