Morning Rites Turn to Lament
अथ सन्देहमानानां स्त्रीणां दृष्ट्वा च पार्थिवम्।यत्तदाशङ्कितं पापं तस्य जज्ञे विनिश्चयः।।।।
atha sandehamānānāṃ strīṇāṃ dṛṣṭvā ca pārthivam |
yat tad āśaṅkitaṃ pāpaṃ tasya jajñe viniścayaḥ ||
ثم لما نظرن إلى الملك عن كثب وهنّ ما زلن في تردّد الشكّ، تحوّل ذلك الخوفُ المشؤوم الذي خامرهنّ إلى يقينٍ قاطع.
Having seen the king more closely, those women who were apprehensive till then, became certain of the inevitable.
Satya (truth) asserts itself: uncertainty gives way to acceptance of reality, even when that reality is painful and inauspicious.
On closer inspection, the attendants become convinced that the feared calamity—Daśaratha’s death—has occurred.
Truth-facing clarity: the movement from doubt to firm recognition of what is, without self-deception.
