Surpanakha’s Political Admonition to Ravana
अयुक्तचारं मन्ये त्वां प्राकृतैस्सचिवैर्वृतम्।स्वजनं तु जनस्थाने हतं यो नावबुद्ध्यसे।।।।
ayuktacāraṃ manye tvāṃ prākṛtaiḥ sacivair vṛtam | svajanaṃ tu janasthāne hataṃ yo nāvabuddhyase ||
أرى أنك لم تُحسن تدبير العيون والجواسيس، وأنك محاطٌ بوزراء سطحيّين؛ إذ إنك لا تدرك حتى أن قومك في جانَسثانا قد قُتلوا.
One Rama alone killed all the fourteen thousand demons including Dusana and Khara, demons capable of fierce exploits.
Rajadharma requires vigilance and responsible governance; ignorance of harm done to one’s dependents reflects failure of duty and discernment.
The advisor rebukes Rāvaṇa for not knowing that his forces/kinsmen were killed at Janasthāna, implying poor counsel and lack of intelligence networks.
Accountability in leadership: a ruler must be informed and responsive to threats against their realm and people.
