Concept: Sacred knowledge is preserved through careful enumeration; number and name together stabilize memory of cosmic functions.

Application: Value disciplined learning: keep track of principles systematically (like counting virtues, vows, or daily practices) to avoid spiritual vagueness.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A celestial abacus of light clicks into place as each ordinal number appears—thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth—each paired with a deity-name glowing like a mantra. In the background, clouds gather and part, hinting at Parjanya’s rain-bearing power and the looming shadow of Kali as a dark, smoky glyph.","primary_figures":["Śāliśira (personified seasonal force)","Parjanya","Kali (as a dark personified age)","Tāraka (as a star-like being)"],"setting":"Sky-temple of time: a mandala where seasons, rains, ages, and stars are personified as attendants in a cosmic registry.","lighting_mood":"divine radiance","color_palette":["storm-cloud gray","mantra-gold","saffron","ink black","star-silver"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: A time-mandala with four panels labeled 13–16 in ornate gold; Śāliśira as a cool-season figure with pale-blue garments, Parjanya as a rain deity with cloud-crown, Kali as a dark smoky figure with subdued ornaments, Tāraka as a star-bodied being; thick gold leaf borders, ruby and emerald accents, jeweled halos, temple-like symmetry.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: Delicate scene of personified forces standing on layered clouds; Parjanya releasing fine rain lines, Tāraka shimmering as a silver star, Kali rendered as a subtle dark wash rather than grotesque; cool palette, refined faces, lyrical sky gradients, minimal ornamentation.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: Strong outlines; Parjanya with stylized cloud motifs, Kali as a dark-toned figure with restrained expression, Tāraka with star emblem on the chest; flat color fields of red/yellow/green with black and gold detailing, framed like a temple panel.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: Circular mandala with four cartouches for the names; floral borders and lotus rosettes; Parjanya indicated by stylized rain-dot patterns, Tāraka by star motifs; deep blue ground with gold and white highlights, intricate textile ornament."}

FAQs

It serves as an enumerative verse, identifying items 13–16 in an ongoing list (Śāliśira, Parjanya, Kali, and Tāraka) to preserve the sequence and structure of the chapter’s catalog.

Not necessarily. In list-verses, names can denote a personified entity, a designation, or a member of a set; without the surrounding verses, it cannot be confidently equated with Kali-yuga.

They should be read as specific named entries in the chapter’s ordered set; additional identification (deity, epithet, or technical category) depends on the larger passage in Adhyaya 18.
