Concept: Twofold teaching: (1) those who relinquish life (interpretable as heroic self-sacrifice or final surrender with dharma) attain Viṣṇu’s abode; (2) Daśamī is ‘pierced/tainted’ by prāṇis and thus should not be chosen for fasting—tithi-śuddhi matters.

Application: When observing fasts, follow tithi-śuddhi (avoid viddhā days; consult pañcāṅga). More broadly, treat life as an offering—act with courage and surrender, especially at life’s end, aligning with dharma and remembrance of Hari.

FAQs

The verse states that such persons attain Viṣṇu’s abode (Viṣṇupura) certainly (dhruvam).

It describes the Daśamī tithi as “pierced/tainted” (viddhā) in relation to living beings (prāṇibhiḥ), used as a reason to discourage fasting on that day.

It instructs that Daśamī should not be observed as a fasting day (na copoṣyā kadācana).
