FAQs

It highlights fasting with austerity (tapas, nirāhāra), self-mastery (jitātmā), freedom from jealousy (jitamatsara), and the ethical triad of compassion, charity, and restraint (dayā–dāna–dama), culminating in conquering desire and anger.

It presents conquering desire and anger as the outcome of disciplined practice: austerity, self-control, and moral virtues together create inner victory rather than mere suppression.

Sustained self-discipline should be paired with kindness and generosity; inner purification is shown by reduced envy and by mastery over impulsive desire and anger.
