The Greatness of Bathing in the Ganges
Gaṅgā-snānā-mahātmya
yatphalaṃ jāyate puṃsāṃ darśane paramātmanaḥ | tadbhavedeva gaṃgāyā darśanādbhaktibhāvataḥ || 10 ||
Sage Narada (teaching in the Uttara-Bhaga context of Tirtha-Mahatmya)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It equates the merit of seeing the Gaṅgā with the merit of direct divine vision, emphasizing that sacred tirtha-darśana becomes spiritually transformative when approached with bhakti.
The verse makes the inner attitude decisive: the same external act (darśana) yields the highest fruit specifically “from a devotional disposition” (bhakti-bhāva), teaching that devotion sanctifies and elevates pilgrimage.
No specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa or Jyotiṣa) is taught directly; the practical takeaway is ritual-principle: tirtha-darśana and pilgrimage practices in Narada Purana are validated primarily by bhakti (devotional intent).
