Śāpaprāpti (Receiving a Curse) — Mohinī Narrative
na cāpi vāso narakeṣu devā asyāḥ sthitiḥ kka tridive'lpabuddheḥ | na cāpi rājño nikaṭe ca devā nāpyetu viṣṇoḥ padamavyayaṃ yat || 60 ||
Sanatkumara (in dialogue context with Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhayanaka
Secondary Rasa: shanta
The verse stresses spiritual eligibility: mere social proximity (to a king) or claims of merit do not grant higher states; without right understanding and dharmic disposition, one fails to attain heaven and, more importantly, the imperishable abode of Viṣṇu.
It implies that attaining Viṣṇu’s avyaya-pada requires more than external status—one needs mature buddhi aligned with dharma and sincere orientation toward Viṣṇu; bhakti is presented as a qualifying inner disposition, not a superficial label.
No specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa, Jyotiṣa, or Kalpa) is taught directly in this verse; the practical takeaway is ethical discernment (buddhi) and conduct (sadācāra) as prerequisites for auspicious results in ritual and devotion.
