Bhakti-Śraddhā-Ācāra-Māhātmya and the Commencement of the Mārkaṇḍeya Narrative
jīvanti jantavaḥ sarve yathā mātarāśritāḥ | tathā bhaktiṃ samāśritya sarve jīvanti dhārmmikāḥ || 30 ||
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: karuna
It teaches that bhakti is not merely an ornament of religion but the sustaining foundation of dharmic life—just as a mother sustains a child, devotion sustains the righteous.
Bhakti is presented as śaraṇāgati (taking refuge): the devotee lives and thrives by relying on devotion as their inner support, rather than on mere external observances.
No specific Vedanga (Śikṣā, Vyākaraṇa, Chandas, Nirukta, Jyotiṣa, Kalpa) is taught in this verse; the practical takeaway is the dharmic principle of dependence on bhakti as the core discipline behind all practices.
