Yajñamālī–Sumālī Upākhyāna: Merit-Transfer through Temple Plastering (Lepa) and the Redemption of a Sinner
शुश्रूषानिरता यांति पापिनोऽपि परां गतिम् ॥ ६१ ॥
śuśrūṣāniratā yāṃti pāpino'pi parāṃ gatim || 61 ||
حتى الخطّاؤون، إذا لزموا الخدمة المتواضعة والإصغاء اليقظ، بلغوا المقام الأعلى.
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It declares that sincere śuśrūṣā—humble service and attentive receptivity to sacred instruction—has purifying power strong enough to carry even the pāpī (sinful) to the highest goal (parā gati).
Bhakti begins with śravaṇa (hearing) and is sustained by seva (service). By remaining niratā (steadfast) in such devotional conduct toward the guru and dharma, one becomes fit for the supreme attainment.
The verse emphasizes practice over technicality: disciplined listening and service as foundational sādhanā. It does not directly teach a specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa or Jyotiṣa), but supports the traditional method of learning them—śravaṇa with humility and obedience.
