The sages (ṛṣayaḥ), addressing Sūta
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: karuna
It establishes śravaṇa (devout hearing) of Gaṅgā-māhātmya as a purifying act, praising the narration as “sarvapāpaghna”—capable of destroying sins and uplifting the listener through sacred remembrance.
The verse highlights bhakti through reverent listening and gratitude toward the narrator; honoring sacred katha about the Gaṅgā nurtures faith, humility, and a devotional orientation toward holy realities.
Indirectly, it emphasizes the discipline of śravaṇa within traditional transmission (oral recitation and attentive hearing), a core practice supporting proper mantra/katha reception—aligned with śikṣā (phonetics) and vyākaraṇa (correct wording) in spirit, though no technical Vedanga topic is explicitly taught in this verse.
