FAQs

The verse stresses that inner and outer purity must be completed through the prescribed act (snāna) after defilement; expiations alone are not treated as sufficient when direct ritual contamination (ucchiṣṭa-sparśa) has occurred.

By insisting on disciplined śauca and correct conduct, the text frames devotion as supported by regulated daily practice—cleanliness and proper rites become a foundation for steady worship rather than a substitute for it.

It reflects Kalpa/Smārta ritual procedure: rules of impurity (doṣa), contact contamination, and the corrective act of snāna as a required step in prayāścitta-oriented observance.
