The Account of the Ekādaśī Vow Observed Throughout the Twelve Months
अयाचितं वापि चरेन्न त्यजेद्व्रतमीदृशम् ॥ ९२ ॥
ayācitaṃ vāpi carenna tyajedvratamīdṛśam || 92 ||
ولو اضطرّ المرء أن يعيش على صدقاتٍ غيرِ مطلوبة، فلا ينبغي أن يترك مثل هذا النذر المقدّس (فراتا).
Narada (teaching within the Narada–Sanatkumara dialogue context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It teaches steadfastness (dṛḍha-niścaya) in dharma: a vow is to be protected even under hardship, choosing simple sustenance over compromising one’s spiritual commitment.
By insisting that one should not abandon a sacred observance, it supports bhakti as consistent practice—devotion is proved by perseverance, not convenience.
It reflects kalpa-style ritual discipline: the practical rule that maintaining a vrata may require regulated living (such as accepting only unsolicited food) to avoid actions that weaken the vow.
