Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 33 — Kuru Cattle-Raid and Matsya Mobilization (भूमिंजय-प्रेरणा)
uṣitāḥ sama sukhaṁ sarve sarvakāmaiḥ supūjitāḥ | bhīmasena tvayā kāryā tasya vāsasya niṣkṛtiḥ |
The verse emphasizes the dharma of gratitude and reciprocity: when one is sheltered and honored by a host, one should not remain indebted but should repay the kindness appropriately, restoring moral balance (niṣkṛti).
Vaiśampāyana notes that the group has been comfortably hosted and well provided for; he then assigns Bhīma the responsibility to repay the host’s favor—implying an impending act of protection, service, or restitution on the host’s behalf.
