Rāma’s Reproach of Sugrīva; Hanūmān’s Report of Seeing Sītā
ajānātāṁ khyāpaya naḥ sukeśi kasyāsi bhāryā duhitā ca kasya
The verse highlights the dharmic importance of proper introduction and social identification—knowing a person’s relations (family and marital status) before proceeding, especially in situations involving protection, hospitality, or judgment.
Koṭika addresses a woman called Sukeśī and asks her to reveal her identity, specifically whose wife and whose daughter she is, because the speakers are unfamiliar with her and need clarity before responding appropriately.
