Mahābhārata 3.214

यस्य सर्वे समारम्भा निराशीर्बन्धना: सदा | त्यागे यस्य हुतं सर्व स त्यागी स च बुद्धिमान्‌,जिसके सम्पूर्ण आयोजन कभी कामनाओंसे बाँधे हुए नहीं होते तथा जिसने त्यागकी आगमें अपना सर्वस्व होम दिया है वही त्यागी और बुद्धिमान्‌ है

yasya sarve samārambhā nirāśīrbandhanāḥ sadā | tyāge yasya hutaṃ sarvaṃ sa tyāgī sa ca buddhimān |

قال الصيّاد: «إنّ الزاهد حقًّا—والحكيم حقًّا—هو من لا تُقيَّد كلّ مساعيه بالشهوة والتوقّع، ومن قد قرّب ذاته كلّها قربانًا في نار التخلّي. فهو يعمل غير مُكبَّل بالرغبة، ويحيا على خُلُقِ الإطلاق وترك التعلّق».
