Arrogance, Boons, and Nimitta

यदास्य वदतो वाक्य न स चक्रे द्विजोत्तम: | वालुकाभिस्तत: शक्रो गड़ां समभिपूरयन्‌,द्विजश्रेष्ठ यवक्रीतने जब इन्द्रका कहना नहीं माना, तब वे बालूसे गंगाजीको भरने लगे

yadāsya vadato vākyaṁ na sa cakre dvijottamaḥ | vālukābhis tataḥ śakro gaḍāṁ samabhipūrayan ||

فلما لم يمتثل ذلك البراهمنُ الفاضلُ للكلمات التي قيلت له، شرع شَكْرَةُ (إندرا) يملأ إناء الماء بالرمل—فعلاً قصد به الإعاقة والامتحان، مُظهِراً كيف يمكن للقدرة الإلهية أن تعترض مقصد المرء إذا لم تُصَنِ التواضعُ والاستقامةُ في السلوك.
