Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Appraisal of Arjuna’s Strategic Supremacy
ध्रुवस्तस्य जयस्तात यथेन्द्रस्य जयस्तथा । तात! साक्षात् भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण
dhruvas tasya jayas tāta yathendrasya jayas tathā | tāta! sākṣāt bhagavān śrīkṛṣṇaḥ, yasyāḥ svabhāvaś cācāra-vyavahāraś cārjunasyaiva samānaḥ, arjunasya rathaṃ hāṅkati; ata indrasya vijayavad asya (arjunasya) api vijayo niścitaḥ ||
قال دِهْرِتَرَاشْتْرَا: «يا بُنَيّ، إنَّ نصرَه مُحَقَّقٌ كما أنَّ نصرَ إندرا مُحَقَّق. فإنَّ بهاگَفان شري كريشنا نفسَه—الذي توافق طبيعته وسيرتُه طبيعةَ أرجونا وسيرتَه—هو سائقُ مركبةِ أرجونا؛ فلذلك، وكما أنَّ ظفرَ إندرا مضمون، فكذلك ظفرُ أرجونا مضمون.»
धृतराष्ट उवाच
Victory is portrayed as assured when righteous effort is aligned with divine guidance: Kṛṣṇa’s presence as Arjuna’s charioteer symbolizes providential support, suggesting that ethical resolve (dharma) strengthened by wise, divine counsel becomes difficult to defeat.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra addresses his son and acknowledges that Arjuna’s success is certain because Kṛṣṇa himself is guiding Arjuna’s chariot; he reinforces this certainty by comparing it to Indra’s proverbial, assured victory.
