गजा विंशतिसाहस्रा ईषादन्ता: प्रहारिण: । कुलीना भिन्नकरटा मेघा इव विसर्पिण:
gajā viṁśatisāhasrā īṣādantāḥ prahāriṇaḥ | kulīnā bhinnakaraṭā meghā iva visarpīṇaḥ ||
قال فايشَمبايانا: «وكانت عشرون ألفَ فيلٍ—ذواتِ أنيابٍ غليظةٍ كالعوارض، مُدرَّبةٍ على الضرب—من سلالةٍ نبيلة، قد انشقّت صداغُها وسالت، تتحرّك متفرّقةً كالسحاب.» ويستحضر المشهدُ اندفاعَ الحربِ المتعاظم: قوةٌ منضبطةٌ مُعبَّأةٌ بأعدادٍ هائلة، مهيبةٌ لكنها مُنذِرةٌ بما تملكه من قدرةٍ على الإيذاء.
