Amba–Rama–Bhishma Dialogue on Vow and Refuge
śālvasya aham iti prāha purā mām eva bhārgava | mayā ca eva abhyanujñātā gatā iyaṃ nagaraṃ prati ||
The verse highlights ethical restraint and respect for declared allegiance: when someone clearly states their intended affiliation, the righteous response is to grant permission rather than compel or obstruct.
Rāma recalls an earlier event to Bhārgava: a woman came to him stating she belonged to Śālva; he consented to her departure, and she went to Śālva’s city.
