Even when a confrontation is imminent, dharma begins with maryādā—proper conduct: receiving a guest with honor and responding with measured speech. Respectful protocol does not erase disagreement, but it frames it ethically.
Bhīṣma approaches Paraśurāma (Jāmadagnya) and offers him due honor. Paraśurāma accepts the reception and begins to speak, introducing the next part of the episode where their relationship and duties will be tested.
