Gālava’s Audience with King Uśīnara
स एव विभवो<स्माकमश्नानामपि गालव । अहमप्येकमेवास्यां जनयिष्यामि पार्थिवम्,गालव! मेरे पास भी दो ही सौ श्यामकर्ण घोड़े हैं; अतः मैं भी इसके गर्भसे एक ही राजकुमारको उत्पन्न करूँगा
sa eva vibhavo ’smākam aśnānām api gālava | aham apy ekam evāsyāṃ janayiṣyāmi pārthivam, gālava ||
قال ديفوداسا: «يا غالافا، إنّ مقدارَ تلك الثروة متاحٌ لنا نحنُ أيضًا ممّن يملكون الخيل. لذلك سأُنجبُ من رحمها أنا كذلك ابنًا ملكيًّا واحدًا لا غير، يا غالافا».
दिवोदास उवाच
The verse highlights restraint and responsibility in royal conduct: even when resources are sufficient, the king chooses a measured outcome—begetting only one heir—aligning personal desire with social order and duty.
Divodāsa addresses Gālava, stating that he too has adequate means (connected with horses) and therefore will father only a single royal son through the woman in question, indicating a controlled, purposeful continuation of lineage.
