ataḥ paraṁ pravakṣyāmi yāni deyāni bhārate | vācyamāne tu viprebhyo rājan parvaṇi parvaṇi ||
The verse emphasizes dāna-dharma: during the recitation of the Mahābhārata, one should support the learned Brahmins with appropriate gifts, treating the act of listening/reciting as a sacred, ethically charged practice.
Vaiśampāyana tells the King that he will now enumerate the donations to be offered at each parvan as the Mahābhārata is being recited—introducing a prescriptive section on parva-by-parva gifting.
